ELA is an architectural design practice headquartered in Madrid, Spain with diversified services including architectural design, urban planning and interior design. Since the firm´s founding in 2010 by Edu López, the firm is involved in rigorous design and research that yields innovative, iconic buildings and urban enviroment.

ELA´s mission is to deliver exceptional design ideas and solutions through the creative blending of human need, environmental stewardship, value creation, science and art, through a collaborative associates enterprises, qith projects that ranges in scale from residencial, institutional, headquarters and civic buildings to large urban and landscape projects.

ELA's approach is to utilizing digital tools and technologies, contemporary theory, innovative building practices,  advancements in engineering solutions and environmental sustainability have afforded the practice a broad and powerful perspective on all aspects related to architectural building design and city planning, responding to the changing social, cultural, and technological conditions of modern life.

With each project the firm explores new ways to integrate an organizing idea with the programmatic and functional essence of a building. Rather than imposing a style upon different sites and climates, or pursued irrespective of program, the unique character of a program and a site becomes the starting point for an architectural idea. While anchoring each work in its specific site and circumstance, ELA endeavors to obtain a deeper beginning in the experience of time, space, light and materials.

ELA was founded with the thought that design has the power to transform our lives, our culture and our societies. With a holistic vision of all the components, needs and the context of our clients, we achieve that the design of the spaces are solved in a creative and innovative way, solving complex problems and transforming the problems of our clients, into solutions with a logical criterion through design.

ELA's work comes from an understanding of the Client's needs and objectives based on cultural, technological and social systems with an artistic perspective, in all its areas, very strongly marked. Our goal is not to create buildings, but significant experiences in terms of spaces and sensations for a wide and diverse audience.

Innovation  & Workflow

ELA constantly researches new materials, techniques and cutting-edge technologies in all its projects, as well as innovative approaches to sustainability and the environment. With this we seek the best possible quality in all project processes using technology and tools to improve communication, as well as the association with the best specialized companies, creating a constant flow of work between all members, creating added value in projects.

ELA completely rejects a symmetrical and unilateral approach to work, due to the transformation of the economy, social, technological and geocultural aspects. Therefore a change of perspective and thinking is required, adopting a multidimensional and interdisciplinary approach that multiplies the tools to solve the problems. changes that the future needs.

Environmental Design & Balance

We seek in our projects a strong attachment to the international and local tradition of each project, with the aim of incorporating the latest methods and technologies in the design and construction process to create the greatest comfort for its occupants. For this we do a strong analysis of the geoenvironmental parameters of each location, which are incorporated from the first design phases. At the same time, our goal is to reduce the long-term maintenance costs of spaces, reduce the consumption of non-renewable resources, minimize waste and negative environmental impacts during the construction process, and reduce CO2 emissions. In collaboration with our clients and expert consultants, we carefully evaluate the unique attributes of each project to make the best decisions to optimize the design by integrating the most appropriate sustainable design strategies.

Our practice is based on 3 fundamental pillars:
